We set sail from Dubrovnik heading down the Rijeka Dubrovnik and turn north towards the island of Mljet. Late Lunch will be at a fine sandy beach on the island of Lopud, which stretches out more like beaches in the Western Med. Shallow and accommodating it is a hive of activity of locals in summer.
Saturday evening finds us in an idyllic the part of the national park, a very special place called Prozurska, that we discovered way back in 2010 totally by accident. An isolated restaurant where Bono sometimes dines protected by a number of small islands.
Day 2 sees us undertaking a lovely sail along the edge of Mjlet island. Beautiful forests touch the azure sea before we cross over to the southern tip of Korcula island and navigate waters just deep enough for our yachts not to touch the bottom. You will be able to see the bottom as we weave between small islands close to Korcula town. Postcard perfect Korcula town is where we anchor in a deep natural harbour and take a local ferry ashore.
Here there is an array of culinary delights and cobbled streets to contend with. Korcula town is a truly stunning place. Make sure you sample the delights of some of the produce from Korcula and take the time to send a postcard from one of our favourite places in the Med.
A long sail is on order Monday. We will sail the sparsely populated southern coast of Korcula island with its endless array of insets and untouched beaches. But don’t worry we will have numerous stops for swimming and dining during the day. Late Monday afternoon we sail from Korcula across to island of Vis. The birthplace and home of (in)famous Yugoslav dictator Tito, it has been an important strategic island for military reasons for over a century and continues to be the home of some of Croatia’s naval fleet.
Komiza harbour is truly a sight to behold in summer. We will lie stern to against the harbour wall with its array of restaurants, bars and ice cream parlours. A great buzz of activity.
Vis has some truly amazing sights including the Green Cave, Blue lagoon and Stiniva beach. We will motor around the island visiting each of these sights and unlike the tourist boats that come for the day, we can anchor at each location and spend as much time as we like exploring.
After lunch we set sail for the jewel in the crown of this part of the world – Hvar. Hvar has something for everyone including the impressive Fortress which stands proudly above Hvar town. The ladies will love to dress to impress here, and an evening partying in Hvar town has seen the downfall of many fine men.
It’s likely that after an evening in Hvar a few of the crew will awake a little worse for wear. Share stories of the night before as we enjoy a recovery swim and lunch at a special place that other sailing companies hadn’t discovered. An afternoon sail towards the island of Solta – famed for being enjoyed as a summer escape island for Emperor Diocletian, founder of the city of Split
Contrasting the bustling and excitement of the evening before, here we lie at anchor in a deep inlet with access to a wonderful Konoba that has been built using traditional materials and serves some great diverse Dalmatian cuisine. This is perhaps your skipper’s favourite stop for the week.
On Day 6 we weave between a number of picturesque islands as we head north towards the town of Primosten. Passing Rogoznicko and some other famed resort towns where landlubbers will look out to sea with envious eyes as you sail past. Our greatest problem today is deciding which of an endless litany of beaches and bays is best for our lunch stop.
Bustling in high season Primosten is a magic town of cobbled streets that has lost none of its old world charm. Chic restaurants, bars and ice cream parlours. And a winery where we can learn from the young owner whilst tasting different produce, about what happens when your grandma defies the local police to make wine.
Our final day at sea will be a very chilled day with very few miles to sail. That means we can explore the archipelago of islands that lie just south of Sibenik. Zlarin and Prvic are 2 stunning small islands with some great anchorages in natural settings that are popular in summer with local boat owners. Relax in the shade of pine trees, listen to the noise of cicadas and drink at a local bar set amongst the forest.
Late afternoon we sail back through the enclosed waters of Sibenik passing the famed St. Nicholas Fort.
On our final day, we depart the yacht at 9 a.m. One (1) hour north of Split airport – or 1 hour south of Zadar – Sibenik is famed for its waterfalls, stunning woodlands and vineyards. If you twist your skipper’s arm he will take you to the waterfalls. A great way to finish an unforgettable week.
Been sailing quite a few times in the Med and UK. Always have the best time. I’m a novice sailor but love to learn, they are always willing to teach. Meet loads of great people and can’t wait for the next trip!
I came out all the way from California to join this sailing crew and had the best time last year in Turkey. Incredible experience, memories, and I got to make new friends. I can’t wait to go to Croatia this August! Always raving about it to my friends and family
One of our best and favourite holidays ever! Since the first one we did 4 years ago, we’ve been booking every year again and again! Awesome! and in the process made life-long friends!
I’ve travelled to various different destinations now with James and the crew, and without a shadow of a doubt, each trip has featured as the most enjoyable holiday I have ever had. Friendly, flexible and fun ! Thanks guys.
I went on the trip to Turkey last year and had amazing time! It was well organized and the skippers were very experienced. I look forward to going on the trip to Croatia this summer.
